Meditation on the Reiki Symbols

11/18/2011

The Reiki symbols are powerful tools we use to focus the healing  energy of  Reiki, The traditional western descriptions of the symbols and their uses are  not the way Usui Sensei would have described them. The CHR symbol known in the  west as the power symbol was described by Usui Sensei as the energy  of the  earth Ki, and is the energy of the physical body, it is physical healing   energy. The second symbol SHK was seen as heavenly energy and the third symbol   HSZSN was said to produce oneness with the Universe. The Usui DKM symbol can be  described as Universal Energy' beaming Reiki's golden light and represents our  Buddha nature.  Usui Sensei’s students would have learnt the symbols' differing  energies through meditating on each symbols and this wonderful way to feel the
essence of the energies.

 Meditation

Sit  comfortably in a chair with your eyes closed and  your hands resting in your lap with the palms uppermost. Start by listening to the sounds around you, then  focus on the in and out of your breathing:

When you are ready Gassho* and connect to Reiki

in your mind  visualise the CHR symbol up in the air above you, and say its name silently to
yourself

Now imagine that the light of Reiki's golden energy is cascading down on your from the symbol and is flowing into your crown Chakra

CHR's light and energy is now flowing into your heart Chakra and from there to every Chakra in
your body,  feel it filling every cell of your body with healing light

Now Imagine that the golden healing light of the Reiki symbol CHR is flowing into your palm Chakras.

Sit and meditate on this energy for several minutes.

When you are ready open your eyes -  Gassho and give thanks.

Then in your Journal write about this experience of meditating on  the symbol.

Repeat  this exercise with the other Reiki  symbols.

(I cannot remember who taught me this  meditation but I m grateful to them for giving me and my students this lovely  way to experience the Reiki  symbols)

*Gassho conveys  respect, request, faith, thankfulness, prayer and devotion.   By joining our two hands together we  become present in the here and now.
