I always start any meditation with settling my mind by first listening to the sounds around me and then turning my attention to my in and out breath....
Now Gassho by by placing your hands together in front of your chest
Focus your whole attention at the point where the two middle finger meet
If you find your mind wandering, it does not matter, you do not have to judge or analyse your thinking
Gently let go or whatever the distraction has been
Begin again focus your attention on the point where you two middle fingers meet
Many, many times in your mind will arrive a deluge of thoughts, images and aches and pains
Without judgement recognise that you have lost touch with the awareness of the two middle fingers of your Gassho hands - begin again
If you have to begin again a million times it does not matter - that is what meditation is.
Re-focus your attention and begin again and again.......
You may feel energy in in your hands or in your spine. Observe this and then return your entire focus to your two middle finger.
Practice this daily if it feels right for you
Take the time that is right for you
