Notebook January 2014
Over the Christmas and the New Year the storms and torrential rain changed our plans for the holiday period. Whatever the weather my dog Pops craved for a walk, ever night we went out for a short walk, I was not always keen to do this. However, wrapped up in layers of clothes and with Pops coat on we stepped into the storm a mix of torrential rain, hail, and icy blustery winds trying to blow us off our feet. One night when the storm seemed to have abated we wander further than usual and we had just turned for home when violent gust of wind drove icy hail into our face and flash lightened shot down to the ground in front of us, followed immediately by a deafening thunder clap. That night we ran full pelt for home.
Walking with Pops even in such stormy weather gave us sense of well being, my thoughts could wander and develop, but a lot of the time I just walked with Pops enjoying the simplicity of being in the present moment mindfully walking and being aware of the changing force of the wind and the fluctuating feel of the rain and hail.
The Buddha taught:
When walking walk;
When standing stand;
When sitting, sit;
When lying down; lie down
Simple advice but in frantic world hard to achieve.
